I am a great admirer of old movie and books written in ’30-’60. This week I watched 3 movies about different but equally retro epochs for us: 1940-1945″Щит и меч(Shield and sword)-actually this picture was made in 1968, but it talks about the Russian scouts (spies) at World War II. I always loved movies about some kind of heroic people and their acts, but this movie attracted me also because it was filmed in USSR, but there is no some communist’s ideas, like in other pictures about WWII, there are no nationality difference, here people are divided in «good» or «bad» only by their acts, and there is no extremes-»very good» or «very bad». Here are just people, with different minuses and pluses, no matter their nationality (in most old pics about WWII you will see that bad are only Germans!), I really hate nationalism! Yes…they admitted Hitler to the authority, but not the whole nation was supporting fascism!
Other movie I watched was «Arch of Triumph»(1948), which was filmed on one of my favorite books of Erich Maria Remarque. This film (book) also talks about the Second World War, or more exactly, the life of German’s refugee in Paris before the official declaration about the beginning of war. I love this book and movie with incredible Ingrid Bergman and fabulous and unknown for me before this film great actor Charles Boyer.
Here the great love, great horror of war, nationalism and the TRUE HUMANS are showed in very realistic way.
And the last one: «Le tonnerre de dieu» (Divine Thunder, God’s Thunder) (1965). About this movie I will not say anything, because the most reviews I read about it can not explain the
essence and induce to watch it. I can say that it worths to be seen by 2000000000%. I just adore it! Few words to describe this movie: full of love, life, kindness, human tragedy, optimism, wit, once again-love in all its kinds!
And finally, my «global» thoughts after the watching:
1) How people can fight, provoke wars, terrorism and nationalism having such horrible experience that had the humanity from Second World War?????
2) Where can I find a real, heroic man, like those in these movies, whose characters I totally adore? Do they exist?…
3) And the last, most not philosophic: Will sometimes return the fashion of ’40-60 return in full scale? I mean, that style is most feminine and adorable I’ve ever seen, I know today this fashion partiallyreturns, but if you will dress all from ’40s, I guess, it won’t be very stylish… or…it will be looking more extravagant, than just feminine! Can today’s girls totally refuse such comfortable casual style and jeans in favor to those dresses? Then they had no choice, but now…I love that then all women were dressed equally feminine and all of them really looked great! They didn’t need to invent something new; they had a fabulous style for everyone and for each especially! I would love that fashion to return at full scale!
